Now comes a boat that provides the great beauty of the originals but without the maintenance requirement. There is no varnish. Each boat is finished with clear coat epoxy that requires no more care than your automobile finish. The bottom is a seamless epoxy/glass construction that will never move or leak. |31300||25'6 Feet 1926 Hutchinson Sedan ||$39,500|
|Built by Hutchinson Brothers Boat Works in Alexandria Bay, NY in 1926 for former Illinois Governor Frank Lowden and his wife, "River Runner" spent her entire life in the Thousand Islands region. She provided the Lowdens with a stylish transport to and from their island (formerly owned by Mrs. Lowden's father, railroad magnate George Pullman) and social events on the mainland and other islands. In 1942 she was sold to a local plumbing and heating contractor and spent nearly fifty years as a workboat hauling propane tanks to island homes. Remarkably, she survived those difficult years and, following a complete restoration in the late 1990s, returned to her role as a graceful island commuter.
"River Runner" has painted cedar side planks, varnished Honduran mahogany tops, decks and cabin sides, and a V-shaped mahogany transom for improved control in reverse. Her cabin includes crank windows, wicker chairs and a bench seat up front. She is powered by a 6-cylinder, 1951 Chrysler 125 HP engine that easily propels her in style and comfort. "River Runner" has won multiple awards at various boat shows in the Thousand Islands region.
|29246||26 Feet 1906 Charles H Wilbur Launch||$39,000|
|Built by Charles H Wilbur he was part of the shop known as Wilbur and Wheelock of Clayton, NY.
There is no nameplate other than the engine plate which is on a 1916 Ford Model "T". The serial no on the engine is 21 which may refer to the year converted by the St Lawrence marine Co. The engine was rebuilt by a restorer in Iowa who has rebuilt hundreds of model A's, B's and T's.
The hull has been faired using cedar strips and epoxies with West System. The area along the keel however has not and it takes several days to soak up.
The launch has been adapted to 8V power for the bilge and period lighting. The fuel tank has been cleaned and lined. The seating was non-existent when I purchased the boat, so the layout was adapted from observing other launches and built to fit the hull.|
